Summer is almost here and we thought we’d take some time to remind everyone how important little health habits and tricks are to maintain. It’s hard when things get busy and our schedules fill up fast to remember to take a couple moments to do the little things that make a huge difference. Here are some reminders and tips for making it all happen this summer. If you put effort in to boosting your health, it will pay off and your body will thank you for it.
- Your daily water intake is essential. Water is important to drink every day, but especially as the weather is getting warmer and your body might sweat more than normal, thus losing fluids more often, it’s important that you’re keeping up with your water intake and replacing and replenishing what is lost. Water is essential for keeping all of your organs functioning. Water is also great for keeping your skin looking healthy and vibrant. Everyone KNOWS how important water is, but sometimes we get so busy we don’t think about actually consuming the amount that we need. It is recommended that we get eight, 8-ounce glasses of water each day. That totals approximately 64 ounces of water a day. However, that is just an average. Some studies suggest drinking half of your body weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 140 pounds, for you specifically, it would be recommended you get at least 70 ounces of water a day.
- PRO TIP: If you carry around a full water bottle with you all day, you’ll be more inclined to drink your water. It’s as simple as sitting it at your desk, full, so when you see it there, you’ll drink it without even knowing. Also, bring a full glass or bottle to each of your meetings. If you drink a bottle in each meeting, you’ll be well on your way to getting your daily ounces in.
- Move your body. It’s no secret that moving your body makes your body happy. Get up and walk between meetings, or on breaks. Take the stairs a couple days a week instead of the elevator. Small choices will result in big changes. We aren’t saying that you have to work out every day for several hours, we are just suggesting you change up a couple of your everyday activities to get more movement in your life. Another tip on this, is park further away at the grocery store. We aren’t suggesting that you park at the back of the parking lot where it may not be safe, but don’t park right by the front door and get a couple more steps in than you might usually get.
Practice sun safety. It’s also no secret how important it is to protect your skin. There are several things that you can do and decisions that you can make while in the sun that will last a lifetime – literally. Sun damage is permanent. PRO TIP: to avoid sun damage, make sure you always have sunscreen, a sun hat, and clothing that will protect your skin. Additionally, finding and spending time in the shade will also help you protect your skin. Some sun is good, and essential to get Vitamin D, however, it’s always important to practice sun safety.
